About Lavrion

Lavrion is a Greek port town located near Athens in the administrative region of Attica.

Why you should start your sailing trip in Lavrion?

Its close proximity to Athens makes it an ideal place to start your sailing trip since you can enjoy all, the major city of Athens, ancient sites and nearby beautiful islands the Cyclades.

The Lavrion area is known for its industry and mining operations from ancient times. This is where the giant columns from the temple of Poseidon were dug out.

The Silver mines date back to prehistoric times. The mining facilities here are believed to be the oldest in the world!

The side effect of this mining activity was that many different and unique minerals were discovered here. These minerals bring a lot of geological tourism into the mountains.

In the last few years, Lavrion has developed and gone through a big transformation. Restaurants, shops and cafes were opened and Lavrion started a new life due to the rebuilding of the port into a major ferry terminal for the Greek islands and the relocation of several sailboat charter companies and a marina.

There are two marinas for the start of your yacht charter in Lavrion: the bigger one is Olympic Marina and the other is Lavrio Main Port.

Yachtcharter Lavrion

Lavrio is the best starting point to visit Cyclades group of islands but from Lavrio you can also sail to Saronic Gulf.

What to do after your yacht charter in Lavrion?

Sail the Cyclades!

Note that the Cyclades is windier in the summer (especially in July and August) compared to the ArgoSaronic. These winds are called Meltemi.

Because of that, we suggest that more adventurous and experienced sailors without young kids consider sailing to the Cyclades.

For a more relaxed family trip with children onboard or even senior crew members should rather go to the ArgoSaronic, which allows for smaller sailing legs, milder weather and extremely picturesque destinations.

In the Saronic area, some beautiful destinations to visit are Palaia Epidavros, Aegina, Methana, Poros, Hydra, Hermioni, Spetsai, Monemvasia and many more.

The Cyclades islands are forming a ring around the ancient island of Delos with its ancient ruins and temples, next to the cosmopolitan island of Mykonos.

There are also Syros, Naxos, Sifnos, Serifos, Paros, Ios, Santorini and more.
