The Bahamas are well-known tourist destinations and the all-time classic, especially for American guests. This Commonwealth state and archipelago covers the big area east from Florida and Cuba and almost every island is a tourist attraction.

The best thing about the islands is their turquoise shallow sea with golden and pink sand. That is the dream for every adventurer who wants to experience a tropical paradise. In main port and capital, Nassau, you can see almost every day at least a dozen big cruises anchored, with thousands of tourists.

But lot of navigators, especially from the USA, for their sailing in the Bahamas choose one part of the Bahamas. That is the Abaco Islands or Abacos.

Very close to America, Abacos are always hot spot and that is why the Abacos Yacht charter business is so developed and lucrative.

Abacos Yacht charter- everything you need to know

Location

So, where is Abacos? This archipelago lies around 180 miles north from South Florida. It consists of two bigger islands, Great Abaco and Little Abaco. Besides these two islands, there are numerous cays, many of which are inhabited. Noteworthy are Walker’s Cay, Grand Cay, Spanish Cay, Green Turtle Cay, Great Guana Cay, Man-O-War Cay, and Elbow Cay. Even the names of these cays bring some kind of mystery and take you to the pirate era.

Inspiring stuff to rent a sailboat. Most of the American sailors come to Abacos from Fort Lauderdale in Florida. The trip is actually quite easy.

Assuming that is nice weather and almost always is, sailboats go along Gulf Stream which makes them safe and fast to the Bahamas and a little bit to the north to the Abacos.

Islands and settlements

On the Abacos, there are quite a few settlements and all of them are sailing centers. So, when we talk about the Abacos Yacht charter, it really means the whole archipelago. When you come to Hope Town on Elbow Cay you’ll see numerous sailboats anchored in front of that small settlement.

The same is with New Plymouth on Green Turtle Cay, Sandy Point or capital Marsh Harbor on Great Abaco. Why is the Abacos so attractive for sailors and therefore for yacht charters who provide the service?

A lot of navigators, like Americans from Florida, like to come with their own boat. But there are a lot of New Yorkers and other inhabitants of the East coast who like to come for a week and rent a boat. And it’s all because of the duality of the Abacos.

The duality of the Abacos

What is this duality? Well, this archipelago can be your tropical paradise with sandy beaches, cocktails and beautiful sunsets.

Southern parts of the islands have a lot of bays and closed lagoons with very shallow sea, where you can really enjoy yourself to the fullest. Sometimes you can see smaller and harmless sharks dwelling in shallow waters around lagoons and a lot of navigators have a habit of feeding them.

You can be safe and secure in this area, swimming, snorkeling and having the time of your life. But also, if you have more need for adrenaline, you can just go around the islands to the north and the open sea. Here there are more winds, more adrenaline, more chance to show your sailing skills, and of course, to see the Big White lurking in the deep blue sea.
